Maurine Lenia holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from Busitema University and is currently pursuing a Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine at Makerere University College of Health Sciences. She previously served as a Medical Officer at St. Mary’s Hospital, Lacor, where she led community non-communicable disease (NCD) screening initiatives, directed hospital-based surveillance projects, and served as a clinical skills tutor for medical students.

As a fellow under the Impact Program, Lenia will undertake a study titled, “Timing and Predictors of Loss to Follow-Up Among Patients with Rheumatic Heart Disease in the Uganda Rheumatic Heart Disease Registry, 2021–2025.”

Through this research, she intends to evaluate national registry data to characterize the temporal patterns and key determinants of attrition among patients enrolled in chronic RHD care. Her study aims to identify sociodemographic, clinical, and health-system barriers to longitudinal follow-up, providing evidence to design targeted retention interventions, strengthen registry tracking mechanisms, and improve long-term health outcomes for individuals living with rheumatic heart disease in Uganda.
