Judith Beinomugisha holds a Master of Medicine (MMed) in Paediatrics and Child Health and a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from Makerere University. She is affiliated with the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health at Makerere University College of Health Sciences, where she engages in clinical practice and research focused on pediatric health and infectious diseases.
As a fellow under the Impact Program, Beinomugisha will undertake a study titled, “Prevalence and Factors Associated with Group A Streptococcal Pharyngeal Carriage among Children Attending Boarding Primary Schools in Kampala: A Mixed-Methods Study.”
Through this research, she intends to determine the prevalence of Group A Streptococcus (GAS) pharyngeal carriage—the key bacterial precursor to acute rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease—among children in primary boarding schools across Kampala. Using a mixed-methods approach, her study will evaluate clinical carriage rates alongside social, behavioral, and environmental determinants in congregate school settings. Ultimately, Beinomugisha aims to leverage these findings to inform targeted primary prevention guidelines, strengthen school health screening, and support early intervention strategies to prevent the onset of rheumatic heart disease in Uganda.
