Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda, attained in 2017.

 

Current workplace, position and highlight duties that one is responsible for.

Lira University, Faculty of Medicine, Lira, Uganda. I am a Teaching Assistant placed on the Internal Medicine ward at Lira University Teaching Hospital. My key duties and responsibilities include supporting the teaching and supervision of undergraduate medical students during clinical rotations on the internal medicine ward, assisting in bedside teaching and tutorials, participating in patient care rounds, conducting ward-based assessments and contributing to quality improvement programs, and contributing to academic activities such as seminars, examinations preparation and research. Participating in community outreach programs.

 

 Research interests.

Clinical research with a focus on cardiovascular medicine, with major interest in rheumatic heart disease which contributes to a significant disease burden in my local community yet remains understudied. I therefore hope to undertake research in the epidemiology of cardiovascular diseases and inform strategies for improving prevention and management of non-communicable diseases in my community and beyond.

What research is going to be undertaken under the Impact Program & expectations out of it

I will undertake a study titled “Prevalence and Association of Clinical Complications with Left Atrial Size Among Patients with Rheumatic Heart Disease at Uganda Heart Institute.” This research involves data collection and analysis at the Uganda Heart Institute, examining the link between left atrial enlargement and complications like atrial fibrillation, thromboembolism, pulmonary hypertension and heart failure in RHD patients. Expectations include producing evidence through examining the prognostic value of left atrial size in rheumatic heart disease to enable risk stratification for complications and guide clinical management and policy such as anticoagulation or closer monitoring to prevent adverse outcomes, enhancing skills in RHD research methodology, fostering collaborations for future studies, publishing results in peer-reviewed journals, and contributing to efforts aimed at reducing the burden of RHD in Uganda through better early detection and intervention.

 Academics and work aside, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Reading and writing, I am an avid gardener and I also collect plants, art, and poetry. Travelling, sightseeing and nature walks. Shopping for collectibles. Photography and looking at well curated pictures. Board games like scrabble.
