Isaac Ebiju holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from Makerere University, where he is currently pursuing a Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine. He serves as a Medical Officer at the Uganda Heart Institute (UHI). In this role, he oversees inpatient and outpatient management of cardiovascular conditions, conducts diagnostic testing, and participates in community outreach activities.
As a fellow under the Impact Masters Research Fellowship on Rheumatic Heart Disease at Makerere University College of Health Sciences, Ebiju will undertake a study titled, “Assessing Cardiac Rehabilitation Needs and Health Status of Rheumatic Heart Disease Patients Following Valve Interventions at the Uganda Heart Institute.”
Through this research, he intends to determine the specific cardiac rehabilitation needs—covering exercise, nutrition, medication management, work capacity, emergency planning, and symptom control—among patients who have undergone valve replacement surgery. Additionally, his study seeks to evaluate the relationship between these rehabilitation needs and patient-reported health status. Ultimately, Ebiju aims to utilize this evidence to guide the development of structured, cost-effective cardiac rehabilitation and patient education programs tailored for sub-Saharan Africa and other resource-limited settings.
