Dr John Tebajanga

Dr. John Tebajanga is a Consultant Physician at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital and the Uganda Cancer Institute (Mbarara Cancer Centre). He holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery as well as a Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine from Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST). He completed his specialist training and research as a Master’s Fellow on the Impact Program, advancing his career as a clinician-scientist committed to enhancing cardiovascular and renal care in Uganda.

As an Impact Program Master’s Fellow, Dr. Tebajanga successfully completed a study titled “Prevalence of Kidney Dysfunction and Associated Factors among Patients with Rheumatic Heart Disease at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital in Southwestern Uganda.”

His research evaluated the burden of kidney dysfunction among individuals living with Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) and identified key clinical factors associated with its occurrence. The study highlighted the critical need for routine kidney disease screening in RHD patients, generating valuable evidence to optimize patient management, inform clinical guidelines, and direct future cardiovascular-renal research in the region.

Driven by a strong commitment to strengthening Uganda’s healthcare system, Dr. Tebajanga aspires to pursue further specialization in cardiology—specifically interventional cardiology—to expand specialized care access across southwestern and eastern Uganda while mentoring the next generation of healthcare professionals.

In his spare time, he enjoys listening to music, watching Formula One, playing football, and reading the Bible.
