Dr Mary Nakiganda

Dr. Nakiganda holds a Master of Public Health from New York University and a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Mbarara University of Science and Technology. She was enrolled as a Senior House Officer in Makerere University’s Internal Medicine Program. In her capacity as a resident, she performed highly specialized medical procedures, supervised medical officers, interns, and nurses, conducted clinical teaching for medical students, and managed inpatient and outpatient care—including patient diagnosis and management—across specialized units at Mulago and Kiruddu National Referral Hospitals.

Dr. Nakiganda’s research interests centered on non-communicable diseases and healthcare implementation research at both the clinical and public health levels.

As a fellow on the Impact Program, she completed a study titled “Social, Economic and Clinical Determinants of Rheumatic Heart Disease Outcomes at Discharge and 30 Days After Discharge at UHI and Mulago National Referral.” Her work was designed to generate critical evidence on the post-discharge outcomes and determinants affecting patients treated for Rheumatic Heart Disease across key referral institutions in Uganda.

In her leisure time, Dr. Nakiganda enjoys watching comedy, reading books, traveling, and experimenting with various cuisines.
