Dr. Nabirye holds a Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine from Makerere University and a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Gulu University. She is currently employed as an adult cardiology fellow at the Uganda Heart Institute where she performs procedures such as pericardiocentesis, cardioversion and Cardiopulmonary resuscitation for cardiac emergencies; reviews patients in the outpatients department and participates in diagnostics including echocardiography and interpreting ECGs, among many other duties. Furthermore, she is a medical officer at Kiruddu National Referral Hospital where she heads the medical outpatient specialized clinics department.

Her research interests span the swathe of preventive intervention and palliative cardiology and integrating infectious diseases into cardiology. As a career development awardee on the Impact Program, Dr. Nabirye will undertake research to ‘evaluate outcomes of anticoagulation and factors affecting time in therapeutic range among rheumatic heart disease patients on vitamin K antagonist at Uganda Heart Institute.’

During her free time, Dr. Nabirye enjoys reading the bible; listening to gospel music; watching the stars at night and taking nature walks.
